ECM Records was recently paid tribute by Munich based cultural institution Haus Der Kunst with a retrospective and archival exhibition titled “ECM: A Cultural Archaeology“. And what better city than Munich to pay tribute to a label born back in 1969 in the same city as the brainchild of Manfred Eicher, a jazz musician and the label’s creative director, and Karl Egger a local businessman. For those of us who couldn’t manage to visit the exhibition, which closed on 10/02/13, we can at least indulge in browsing and reading a print version containing detailed essays, musings, archival photos, and even a roundtable held with Eicher himself. The book is available from ECM’s website or, surely, from your favorite local bookshop (those in London can check at Artwords). You can also find it via issuu. Read the full feature here.
